About this episode

Mark Brumley, president of Ignatius Press, joins Purposely Catholic to discuss the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible and how Catholics can engage Scripture more deeply. He explains how its notes connect the Old and New Testaments with the Church’s tradition, and recommends reading the Mass readings beforehand so that the words proclaimed in church are easier to receive and understand.

The conversation also turns to the way Catholics share their faith. Brumley recalls his father’s late-life conversion and cautions against making apologetics a contest for personal victory. He offers a concrete starting point for parish renewal: bring parish leaders together regularly to study and pray with Scripture, then form them to help others. Throughout, the emphasis is on allowing biblical knowledge to shape worship, relationships and mission.
