About this episode
Fulton Sheen used the media of his day to bring the faith into people’s homes. Now we’re trying to work out what to do with artificial intelligence. Peter Howard joins Purposely Catholic to consider what Sheen’s example might teach us. Howard asks whether we’re looking to technology for what only God can give. We also consider the good these tools might do, what they mean for human work, and why a screen can leave us longing for a real conversation.
Sheen’s daily holy hour brings the question closer to home. Howard describes prayer before the Blessed Sacrament as the foundation of Sheen’s public ministry. That leads us to our own prayer lives and the work waiting in our parishes. There’s plenty for the laity to do, including helping with parish responsibilities so priests have more time for confession, pastoral care, and the people who need them.
